In a shop, cameras protect the cash counter, the stock and the shutter. Shops are also on the official list of establishments that must keep working CCTV in Punjab and Sindh, so a clear, working system matters when the police check.
Rules that apply
- The Punjab Security of Vulnerable Establishments Act 2015 counts installed, working CCTV as a required security arrangement, and managers must hand footage to the police on request. Source: Punjab Laws
- Sindh's Security of Vulnerable Establishments Act 2015 uses the same list of establishments. Source: Sindh Laws
- In Karachi, police have served written notices on shopkeepers and stressed that cameras must also cover the outside of the shop. Source: Dawn
What the cameras should cover
- Cash counter (with audio if you want it)
- Shop entrance and shutter from outside
- Stock room or store
- Aisles and display areas
- Back door or loading point
Recommended setup
- A camera with audio over the counter
- An outdoor camera covering the shutter and the road
- A UPS or inverter on the recorder and cameras, so recording continues during load-shedding
- Enough hard-drive space for the days of recording you need (we size the drive in days, not just terabytes)
